Douglas Earl "Doug" Richards was born November 1, 1944, in Trinity, Texas to Paul Johnson Richards and Velma (Jordan) Richards. He passed away on June 18, 2024, at the age of 79.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing from a young age, and enjoyed entertaining his family and friends with tales of his hunting trips and time spent on the river fishing. Doug worked at many different jobs during his lifetime. As a young man, he worked as a fishing guide on the Trinity River. He was employed at the Cauble Ranch in Centerville where he worked as a cowboy and general ranch-hand. He was also employed with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice from which he retired. Doug's favorite job was his time spent as a landman for an oil company. He and his wife, Sylvia, traveled with a seismograph crew across the United States. He and Sylvia especially enjoyed the time they spent in Montana and Wyoming.
Spending time with family and friends was one of Doug's favorite things to do. Whether sitting around a fire just visiting or watching football on television, he always enjoyed an opportunity to get together with others.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Sylvia (Suttle) Richards; his parents, Paul and Velma Richards; sister and brother-in-law, Nelda and Billy Wayne Shipper; brother, Jerry Richards; and sister-in-law, Barbara Richards.
He is survived by his brothers, Jim Richards and wife, Frances and Jon Paul Richards, and wife Margarette; sister-in-law, Cindy Richards; along with numerous nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces from both the Richards and Suttle families.
Doug lived his life to the fullest and seldom met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
