Dorothy Ann (Kessel) Stewart

Dorothy Ann Kessel Stewart age 94 passed away peacefully at Clear Lake Regional Hospital on Sunday, September 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Lamar, Missouri on April 26, 1930, to John and Anna Kessel, who preceded her in death. Following graduation, Dorothy worked at the local Cannery and Boeing Aircraft. She met John Odie Stewart in June 1957, in Seattle, Washington, and they married in November, 1957. John was an Army veteran which allowed them to travel on the George W. Goethafs to Fort Kobbe Canal Zone, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. They eventually made their way to Houston, Texas where they raised their four children. Dorothy was a proud homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family. Friends and neighbors were always welcome at Dorothy’s table for a hot home cooked meal. In 1979, John and Dorothy relocated their family to Robbins, Texas where they owned and operated a country store and restaurant that became well known for her signature burgers.

Following John’s passing in 1993, Dorothy relocated back to Houston, Texas to enjoy her retirement years. She made many new friends and enjoyed the care centers where she lived, her most recent at Sylvan Shores Health and Wellness in La Porte, Texas. The family is appreciative for their care and creating a home-like environment. Dorothy never met a stranger, and she had a fun sense of humor - it was obvious she enjoyed life with her many friends and family. You would often hear her singing "Amazing Grace" and chanting "Hallelujah." She loved her diet cokes, anything purple, blingy jewelry, and watching the birds out her window. She was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Hyacinth Church in Deer Park for many years. Upon becoming a resident at Sylvan Shores she enjoyed her weekly visits from Blanche Kilpatrick and Sonya Mathews, Samaritan Ministries with St. Mary’s Church in La Porte. The family thanks you both for your love and friendship.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-six years, John Odie Stewart; daughter in-law, Letha Stewart; grandson, Payne Stewart; son in-law, Buddy Schultz; brother in-law, Gene Stewart and sister in-law, Bobbie Stewart. Also preceding Dorothy in death are her sisters and brothers.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Marita, Britt & Tina, and Greg and Robby; grandchildren, Lindsey & Brad, Ty & Sky, Brannon & Cannon, Brac, Heather & Russel, Jason & Beth, Ridge & Kaylin, Cody & Leslie, Clint and Amber; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Aiden, Halston, Winter, Bracyn, Liezel, Jessa, Blakelyn, Rhea, Hazel, Grayer, Baizley, Sunni, Maci and Mia; niece, Karen Stewart Stevens; as well as relatives in Oregon and Washington. A special mention and heartfelt thanks goes to lifelong friend, Laurie Lamontagne Baxa.
