Donald Eugene "Don" Sharrock

Donald Eugene "Don" Sharrock, age 70, of Leona, Texas passed away peacefully July 23, 2023 surrounded by his family at his home. He was born May 21, 1953 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, Texas to parents, William Woodrow & Reta Jeanette (Rogers) Sharrock.

During his childhood, Don spent summers working with his uncle on his farm. It was this work that fostered a lifelong love of farming and ranching that spanned the remainder of Don's life and eventually brought him to Leona with the purchase of his own ranch. Prior to moving to Leon County, Don and his wife, Pam had lived on the coast. During this time, Don had held many jobs on the water, another lifelong love. Such jobs included shrimp boat captain, oyster captain, supply boat worker, shipyard worker and operator of Gulf Haven Pier. Don's talents weren't limited to only ranch and boat work. He was also a nuclear welder, paper mill worker, welder/pipe fitter (for twenty-six years) and a material take off specialist (engineer).

Not only did Don love ranch work and being on the ocean, he was a skilled woodworker, scout master and youth baseball coach.  He also enjoyed tending to his cattle and his Great Pyrenees and Newfoundland dogs. Periodic fishing trips with family allowed Don a way to share his love of the ocean with them, and many great times were had. Most of all, Don loved when all of his family were able to be together, especially around the Thanksgiving holiday, and nobody could match Don's potato salad! He will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him.

Don was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Surviving family members include wife of forty-nine years, Pam Sharrock of Leona; sons, Bill (Katie) Sharrock of Bayou Vista, Randy (Molly) Sharrock of Katy, Chancey (Reagan) Sharrock of Katy and Matt (Elizabeth) Sharrock of Groveton; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Victoria "Tori", Taylor, Austin, Alyssa, Arwen, Alexis, Silas and Arielle and brothers, George (Charlotte) Rickard of Highlands and Ed Rickard, as well as numerous other extended family and friends.

A memorial service honoring Don's life will be held 11 A.M., Friday, August 4, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Groveton, Texas.  Don's son, Matt Sharrock, will officiate the service, assisted by Dr. Donald Head.
