Doc S Wooley

Funeral services for Doc Wooley, age 93, will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the New Salem Cemetery Chapel in the Centerview Community of Leon County. Bro. Charlie Young will officiate the service, and interment will follow in the New Salem Cemetery, adjacent to the church. A brief visitation will be held from 12 noon to service time, Tuesday, at the New Salem Chapel.

Doc S. Wooley was born January 17, 1925, in Pearson Chapel, Texas to Colonel Waymon & Hattie (Gray) Wooley, although, he was mostly raised by his mother and step-father, Clyde Taylor. He considered Clyde as his real father and loved him dearly. Doc served his country in the United States Navy and married his sweetheart, Mae McCarty, on December 23, 1946. He worked as a mechanic for Continental Can Company and retired after thirty-one years.

Doc loved music and enjoyed playing and singing all over the country. He also enjoyed raising a large garden every year. Doc appreciated being outdoors and was an avid squirrel hunter and fisherman. He will most fondly be remembered for his unique storytelling ability which, to his family, was better than anyone around. Doc had been a resident of Leon County since 1978.

Doc passed away February 16, 2018, in Madisonville, Texas. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; step-father, Clyde Taylor; sons, Joe Leonard & Wallace Earl Wooley and daughter, Juanita Roberts. Surviving family members include wife of seventy-one years, Mae Wooley of Centerville; sons, Roy (Debbie) Wooley of Magnolia and Les (Sharon Lee) Wooley of Centerville and brother, John (Denise) Taylor of Centerville. Doc is also survived by eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and numerous great, great grandchildren.

Walters Funeral Home in Centerville is in charge of all arrangements.
