David Wayne “Bubba” Brazzell, age 77, of Marquez, Texas, passed away at his home on February 11, 2018. Funeral services for Mr. Brazzell have been set for 11 AM, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Rev. Robert Read will officiate, and burial will be in the Marquez Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.
Bubba Brazzell was born February 22, 1940 in Houston to Andrew and Pearl (Furr) Brazzell. He graduated S.F. Austin High School in Houston and attended the University of Houston. He always loved the outdoor life and rode horses with his Grandpa Furr on the “Salt Grass Trail” when he was a boy. His parents moved to Leon County in the late 1960’s and Bubba moved his family to Leon County in the early 1980’s, making his home near Marquez. He enjoyed ranching and the country life.
Before he moved to Marquez, he worked out of the Pipefitters Local 211 in Houston and retired after 18 years with them. After moving to Marquez, he began working for Leon County Pct. #4 grading roads on heavy equipment. A while back he also had a job with his daughter’s and son-in-law’s business, Country Comfort RV Park and Bar-B-Que. His job was as the official “people greeter”.
Bubba had been a past Worshipful Master of the Jewett Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. It could be said that he enjoyed everything about his life in Leon County. As he got older he realized that he needed to slow down a little. He retired from Leon County Pct. #4. But he did continue to work a little on the side. He was close to his family and friends. His parents passed away and so too did his wife, Betty. His passing was sudden but it allowed him to be a fairly active man up until the very end of his life.
Surviving family includes his daughters, Mona Madden and her husband, Greg and Marilyn Martinez and her husband, Jack; grandchildren, Dalton Madden and his wife, Maryssa, and Taylor Madden; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace and Addy Joann; sister, Mamie Bell and her husband, Rodney; nephews, Mickey, Rickey, James, and Dennis Bell; niece, Rhonda Phillips; uncle, Guy L. Jeanes and cousin, Frank Jeanes.
