Clyde Hot Shot was born June 6, 1934 in Centerville, Texas. Clyde graduated from Centerville High School in 1953. He was 19 years old. He then worked for a year as a teacher at Shady Rest. At age 20,Clyde joined the U.S. Air Force. He served at the end of the Korean War. At the beginning of the War in Viet Nam, he came home. He served two years, five months and nine days attaining the rank of Airman 3rd Class and receiving an Honorable Discharge. He stayed in the Reserves until the age of 35.
He hand dug fresh water wells for 25 years of his life. He started singing and playing the guitar at the age of 13 years and, at the age of 16, he performed on KIVY Radio. For the next 25 years or so, he would travel around locally and play his music. He made two music CDs in later life: High Steppin Momma and Paper Plate Blues. He was featured in several books and magazines. He was a one man band.
Mr. Clyde passed away on June 13, 2017 in the V.A. Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Centerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen Langford; two brothers, Bobby and Willis Langford; two sons, James Ray and Clyde Langford, Jr. and his beloved wife, Mrs. Annie Louise Langford. Mr. Clyde leaves to cherish his memories a sister, Georgia Lee Patterson of San Jose, California; three daughters, Pasqualina Langford Clark (Marcus) of Rowlett, Texas, Linda Simpson (Earl) of Dallas, Texas and Vercindy Deadwyler (Bernard) of Ft. Worth, Texas; a step-daughter, Joyce Buckner Nauling of Centerville, Texas; four Sons, Banza Langford (Janae) of Centerville, Texas, Danny W. Robinson (Shirley) of Desoto, Texas, Delingo Langford, Sr. (Renee) of Lecompte, Louisiana and Frank Langford of Centerville, Texas. Clyde PawPaw had fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren the love of his life, Katie Mae Buckner of the Pleasant Springs community east of Centerville and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Mr. Clyde will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 6 pm until 8 pm at the Walters Funeral home in Centerville. The funeral service is set for 12 noon, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Centerville with burial following in the Centerville Community Cemetery.
