Cecil Wallace Vest

Cecil Wallace Vest, 86, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2022 at the Texas Loving Care Living Center in Madisonville, Texas.

He was born on October 2, 1935, in Brownfield, Texas to Cecil Henry and Lela Mae (Allen) Vest. Cecil married his wife, Frances Lea Cleere on February 12, 1954, and they shared sixty-seven wonderful years together. Their union in holy matrimony granted them three sons, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was affectionately known to his family as “Papa” and was truly loved and adored.

Cecil was in the reserve of the National Guard of Texas for seven years. He made his livelihood as a paint/drywall contractor, cabinet maker and retired from Midland Independent School district after eighteen years.

Cecil was a devoted Christian, father and grandfather and always supported and helped his family in numerous aspects of their lives. He was excellent at woodworking, carpentry and painting. He loved working in his garden and doing outside projects. Cecil had a great sense of humor and his family and friends had many laughs at his funny jokes.

Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Lea Vest; father, Cecil Henry Vest; mother, Lela Mae Vest; brother, Charles Vest; sisters, Betty Vest, Wanda Applin and Phyllis Brown.

His legacy lives on in his sons, Cecil L. (Kim) Vest of Midland, Dwayne Vest of Dallas and Steven (Christine) Vest of Leona; daughter-in-law, Laura Vest; grandchildren, C.J. (Kelsey) Vest, Keith (Kristi) Vest, Zachry Vest, Matthew Vest, Nicole (Russell) Simpson and Dr. Andrew Vest and eight great-grandchildren. Cecil is also survived by in-laws, Robert (Gloria) Treadwell, Dorothy Cleere and Beldon (Bobleta) Cleere and numerous nieces and nephews.
