Bonnie Mae (Smith) Richmond

Bonnie Mae (Smith) Richmond was born June 28, 1934 near Oakwood, Texas to parents, Jasper Nathan & Mollie Iva (Irons) Smith. She and her siblings were raised in the Oakwood area. After her marriage to Alvin J. Richmond, Bonnie moved to Humble where she raised her own family.

During Bonnie’s residence in Humble, she and her husband owned an early childhood education facility. Countless children were nurtured by Bonnie as she not only provided them an academic education, but made certain to provide a spiritual education, as well. Bonnie also served as a seamstress, sewing costumes for various pageants and plays.

Bonnie was a long-time, faithful member of First Baptist Church in Centerville, Texas. She possessed a strong love for God in her heart, and yearned to study His word her whole life. Even up until her passing, Bonnie had been studying the book of Matthew in the hospital for a bible study class that she was attending in which she didn’t want to fall behind. She also enjoyed reading Christian novels.

Second only to her love for God was Bonnie’s love for her family. Lining the walls of her home are numerous photos of Bonnie’s family members. Each one held a special place in her heart. Gifts received from grandchildren were eternally treasured. And just like she had educated her children in early childhood, Bonnie made certain to pass on the word of God to her family.

Bonnie loved to be outdoors whenever she could and especially liked working in her garden. She had been a resident of Centerville for the past thirty-two years. She greeted her Lord and Savior with open arms and a smile the morning of September 3, 2019.

Bonnie was preceded in death by both of her parents; beloved husband, Alvin J. Richmond, son, Michael Alvin Richmond and sister, Laura Fae Head. Surviving family members include daughters, Bonita Culbertson (George) of Raleigh, NC, Carolyn Johnston of Splendora and Donna Anderson (Dale) of Humble; brother, Nathan Smith (Faye) of Oakwood and sister, Vera Barnett (Reuben) of Buffalo. Bonnie is also survived by grandchildren, Chris Hawthorne, Stephanie Smith, Janna Richmond, Scott Swallows, Courtney Culbertson; Caroline Culbertson and Logan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Jackson, Eli, Amelia Grace, Hayden and Emma and great, great-grandchild, Harper Mae.

A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Oakwood. The Richmond family will receive friends Friday, September 6th, 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
