His father passed away when he was just eleven years old, and Bobby began to work at an early age to help support his family. After graduating from Arp High School, he attended the University of Texas for about three semesters. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Army, Bobby went to Hobbs, New Mexico to work for this brother, Otis, drilling water wells. He eventually moved to Houston where he met Sara Ann Waldrip. The two where united in marriage on January 26, 1957. Bobby soon began working for Hughes Tool Company, now Baker Hughes. He retired in 1988 after thirty-two years as an inventory control manager.

Many other relatives lived not far from he and his wife. Some years after the death of his wife on August 16, 2005, Bobby moved back to Pasadena to live with his daughter.
Bobby loved to spend time outside working in his flower beds and vegetable garden. Many of the vegetables grown by Bobby were canned by his wife, Sara Ann. He loved God and his family. He frequently took time out of his life to visit the sick and always helped those in need. Bobby was a loving father and grandfather.
