Billy Tidwell passed away peacefully Saturday, March 6, 2021 in Tomball, Texas just eight days shy of his ninety-second birthday. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday March 12, 2021 at the Centerville Cemetery in Centerville, Texas.
Billy Edward Tidwell was born March 14, 1929 in Brownsboro, Texas, the youngest and only son of Dunk McKinley & Willie Marion (Holcombe) Tidwell. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and then worked as an electrician on airplanes for Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio. Following retirement, Billy and his wife Julie, moved to Centerville where they became members of First Baptist Church and active members of the Senior Center. Their daughter and son-in-law introduced Billy & Julie to cruising and they became passionate about traveling with the family to favorite locations such as Alaska and the Caribbean. Billy enjoyed keeping a vegetable garden and was well known for his delicious red tomatoes, onions and cream peas. Billy became a master gardener during the years he lived in Centerville and loved planting pine trees on his properties. In his younger years, Billy liked to hunt and fish, but as Billy grew older his interest in wild game turned to a camera and binoculars with many hours spent sitting in a deer blind just watching nature pass by. Billy also enjoyed spending his time at the Leon County Senior Center where he lunched with friends and played an occasional game of bingo. The last two and one-half years of his life, Billy moved to Tomball into an independent home to be near his daughters. He lived a full and happy life at this community and exercised regularly and played bingo two to three times a week.
Billy was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife of sixty-two years, Julie Tidwell and four sisters, Florine, Bernice, Gladys and Vera Mae.
Surviving family members include children, Janet Faye Tidwell-Lozano (Richard) of Tomball, Betty Jean Colbert (Jason) of Montgomery and David Michael Tidwell of Williston, FL; grandchildren, Douglas Colbert (Allison) and Judith Robertson (Erik) and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Zachary & Kenzie Colbert and Lucas & Jonas Robertson. Billy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
