Billie Jewel Duncan

Billie Jewel Duncan was born on August 25, 1939 to the late Lee Duncan and Arlean Young Duncan in Madisonville, Texas. He accepted Christ at and early age and was baptized at Sweet Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Billie was affectionately known as NIP to his family and friends. Billie attended Madisonville public schools. While a student at Marian Anderson Senior High School, Billy excelled in football as a star center. His athletic ability earned him a football scholarship upon graduation in 1957 to Mary Allen College in Crockett, Texas. Billie was drafted into the United States Army in 1962 serving in Germany as a heavy artillery specialist. He was decorated in the Army for being an expert rifleman and for his conduct. Mr. Duncan was honorably discharged in 1964 from the Army.

Billie was a loving and gentle soul, and to know him was to love him. He loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews and was always empathetic to what was going on in their lives.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Lee & Arlean Duncan; sisters, Lorine Duncan, Dora Davis, and Lurlean Kelley; brothers, Cleave Duncan & Rev. Lee Morse Duncan and nephews, Duncan Davis & Carl Kelley.

Billie is survived by sisters, Eler Sandles (William) of Houston and Rosie Quiller of Houston. Survivors also include his nephews, Vivon Davis of Houston, Cleave Duncan of Houston, Charles Kelley (Annette) of Stafford, Ronald Kelley (Donna) of Sugar Land, William L. Sandles of Houston, Charles Quiller (Solange) of Raleigh, NC and William Quiller (Karen) of Fresno and nieces, Audrey Brooks (Leroy) of Houston, Jeanette Grant of Houston, Lorraine Milton (Patrick) of Missouri City, Regina Williams (Richard) of Missouri City, Vanessa Kelley of Houston and Levetta Duncan-Antoine (Tony) of Houston.

Homegoing services for Billie Duncan will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery in Madisonville with funeral honors presented by the U.S. Army. A brief visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.

Madisonville Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.
