Funeral services for Betty "Jean" (Coyle) Torno are scheduled for 11 A.M., Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Visitation will be at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, before the service. Interment will be held in the Centerville Cemetery. Jacob Hudgins, one of her grandsons, will officiate the service.

Betty "Jean" (Coyle) Torno, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Buffalo, Texas, on Friday, December 13, 2019. She was born November 10, 1927 in Waskom, Texas, an only child, to Blanchard Calhoun Coyle and Lennie Mae (Smith) Coyle.

She graduated high school from Pasadena High School in 1944, at the age of sixteen, and enrolled in Hermann Nursing School in Houston, graduating with her RN degree in 1947. It was during this time, she met Curtis Torno, a medical student, in Galveston. They married January 21, 1949, and shared just shy of sixty years together, until his passing in 2008.

Jean and "Doc" made their home in Deer Park, Texas where they raised their five children. When he retired from medical practice in 1983, they moved to Leon County. They enjoyed many years on the "ranch" before moving for brief times to Fairfield, Texas and Marlin, Texas, but returned to Buffalo in 1995. It was here that Jean lived for the past twenty plus years.

Jean enjoyed cooking, gardening, and being with her family. She and Doc were always surrounded by a host of very close friends and entertained often.

She was a devoted Christian and an active member of the Centerville Church of Christ and attended faithfully until her health began to decline. The past seven years brought many trials, as she battled Alzheimer's.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Curtis Torno, and her parents.

She is survived by her five children: Steve Torno, and wife, Cindy, of Centerville; Linda King, and husband, Todd, of Rockdale; Heidi White, and husband, Victor, of Deer Park; Lisa Taylor, and husband, Mark, of Buffalo; Mona Maples, and husband, Floyd, of Splendora. She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren: Matthew Torno (Carly) of Austin; Jennifer Burns (Andy) of Harlingen; Melody Torno of Houston; Joshua Hudgins (Angela) of Niwot, CO; Joel Hudgins (Lindsay) of Milton, MA; Jacob Hudgins (Sarah) of Maumelle, AR; David White (Misty) of Houston; Natalie Lay (Dusty) of Deer Park; Caleb White of Deer Park; Rachel Strode (Matt) of Tyler; Rebecca Shipley (Rob) of Tyler; Aaron Maples (Dion) of Pflugerville; Curtis Maples of Splendora. In addition, she is survived by sixteen great-grandchildren and one on the way.
