Alvin Homer “Al” Byers, Sr. was born August 26, 1940 in Houston, Texas to parents, Alva & Joanna (Cure) Byers. He met his lovely bride and forever love, Eloise Hill, May 8, 1958. They were married December 20, 1958 and shared just over sixty-two happily married years together. He was a devoted husband and also actively involved in his children’s lives as they were growing. Al’s devotion to family continued on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as he and Eloise especially enjoyed spending time with each of them. Al worked as a construction foreman for Southwestern Bell until his retirement. He and Eloise moved to Leon County in 1994, coming from Kingwood, Texas. It was in Leon County where Al was able to enjoy doing what he loved most: woodworking, “fixing-up” broken and worn-out items, driving his tractor, vacationing and taking an active role in his church and community.
Above any other significant matter in Al’s life was Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and was a dedicated Christian man. Even more importantly, Al made sure that he raised his family in the word of God. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and assisted in the construction of the Family Christian Center. He was instrumental in the formation of several ministries in the community including, the Banner Ministry and the Iron Men’s Group. He enjoyed smoking briskets on his pit and feeding these groups, as well.
Al was preceded in death by both of his parents and sister, Barbara Ann Byers. He is survived by wife, Eloise Byers; children, Butch (Liz) Byers, Phil (Laurie) Byers and Todd (Christi) Byers; grandchildren, Philip (Kelly) Byers, Amanda (Travis) Zambiasi, AJ (Karyn) Byers, JT Byers, Taylor Byers, Jackie Byers, Ashley Byers (Jaraman Rucker), Angela (George) Rojas, Michael (Amanda) Morado, Marco (Frances) Morado and Mark (Brandy) Morado, as well as eighteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Final arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
