Mr. Johnny Gilbert was born August 07, 1943 to S.L. and Maggie Gilbert. He attended Marion Anderson Schools in Madisonville, Texas. Mr. Gilbert accepted Christ at an early age and sang with his brother in a quartet group called The Risen Stars. Mr. Gilbert worked many years as a truck driver for Gus Morgan, Larry Smith and Kenny Allen. He loved fishing, playing dominos and spending time with his family. Mr. Gilbert passed away August 22, 2018 in Normangee, Texas.
Mr. Johnny Gilbert is preceded in death by both of his parents; S.L. and Maggie Gilbert; brothers, Judge, Lloyd, Lucious and Otis Gilbert; sister, Katherine Dickey; grandsons, Jimmy and Barrett Polk; son, Kedrick Adkinson and brothers-in-law, Bobby Whaley and Walter Dotson.
He leaves to cherish his memories sisters, Dora Dotson of Houston and Cora Lee of Madisonville; daughters, Dena Fuller of Normangee and Lynn Polk (Jimmy) of Madisonville; sons, John Gilbert, Jr. (Pam) of Dimebox and David Adkinson (Susan) of Coolidge; brother in law, William Dickey; sisters-in-law, Jessie and Marilyn W. Gilbert and longtime friend, Debbie Kay Adkinson. Mr. Gilbert also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren (one on-the-way), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 1 P.M., Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Madisonville, Texas. A public visitation will take place from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Friday, August 31st at Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas.
