Joe Grubbs, age 81, of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Bryan, Texas. He was born on January 27, 1936 in Jewett, Texas to Ennis A. & Debbie (Daughtry) Grubbs. At the age of three, Joes family moved south, near the coast, and remained there through his childhood and teenage years.
Joe retired from Monsanto Chemical Company in Texas City as an Instrument Technician. While living in Hitchcock, Joe enjoyed restoring old cars in his spare time. In 1991, he moved back to Leon County where he enjoyed the remainder of his life on his ranch working with cattle. In previous years, Joe had also enjoyed spending time fishing when he was able. He was a longtime and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Jewett.
Joe was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Grubbs of Concord and daughters, Deborah Ann Watson (husband, Cary) of Houston and Cathy Byrd (husband, Monte) of Bellville. He is also survived by four grandchildren, John Morgan & Laura Ann Watson and Caleb Grubbs & Hannah Dorothy Byrd.
Graveside services for Joe Grubbs will take place at 10 A.M., Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Sardis Cemetery near Jewett, Texas. Bro. Monte Byrd & Bro. Allen Crosby will officiate the service. There will be no public visitation.
Pallbearers will be Bill Hughes, Rickey Enyart, Richard Ellis, Jerry Robinson, Robert Holmes & Caleb Byrd.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is in charge of all arrangements.
