Dorothy Mae Jones Johnson was born on August 10, 1933 to Amos and Willie B. Jones in Centerville, Texas. She was the fourth child of six children.
Dorothy Mae grew up in The Ridge Community where she attended school. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and became a member of the Mt. Calm Pine Top Baptist Church.
Dorothy Mae and Jack Johnson, Sr. were united in holy matrimony on November 3, 1950. They remained married until his death, November 1970. To this union, seven children were born. Three preceded Dorothy in death, Lee V. Johnson (Brenda), Jackie Johnson and Tilden Johnson.
Dorothy Mae departed this life on April 30, 2021.
Dorothy leaves her legacy of writing the Pine Top Article in the Centerville News for many years, also Sunday School Superintendent at Mt. Calm Pine Top Baptist Church and President of Ward Cemetery.
Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her children, John D. Johnson (Cynthia), Roy C. Johnson (Sherri), Jack Johnson, Jr. (Grace) and Tilda Young (Fretitia); her very special boy (brother), Bud Jones; her special big girl, Ann Davis; her special niece, Pearlie Tryon and a very special cousin, Essie Mae Johnson. She also leaves behind grandchildren, John, Jr., Derrick, Rodney, Kristi, Cherika, Jack, III, Christopher, Cenora and LaKeitha; step-grandchildren, Damion, LaKeshia and Tanya; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Homegoing services for Dorothy Mae will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Rev. Izair Lankford will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Ward Cemetery. A public visitation will be held Friday, May 7th from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
