Clyde Dear Sr., age 85, passed away on December 8, 2017 in Crockett, Texas. Graveside services have been scheduled for 11 A.M., Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Salter Cemetery in rural northeastern Leon County. Bro. Bo Gunnels will officiate the service. A visitation will take place on Sunday, December 10th from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
Clyde Monroe Dear Sr. was born on November 7, 1932 in Houston, Texas to Howard & Maybell (Pettijohn) Dear. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Clyde worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction business. He had moved to the Oakwood area from Pasadena, Texas in 1991 and was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. He later resided in the Houston County Nursing Home in Crockett, Texas. Clyde loved reading Louis L’amour books and watching John Wayne movies. He also enjoyed playing bingo. Clyde was a very social person and especially liked visiting with people.
Clyde was preceded in death by both of his parents; son, Clyde Monroe Dear Jr.; brothers, Claude Ray, Rudolph & Johnny Dear and sister, Edna Burkett. Surviving family members are wife, Betty Dear of Crockett; daughters, Carolyn Rains (Don) of Crockett & Barbara Conti (Larry) of West Point; sister, Theda Ogg of Tyler; grandchildren, Misty Latham (W.P.), Richard Hunt II (Jayda), Michael Morris (Natalyia), Racheal Dear, Deann Freeman & Jason Dear and numerous great grandchildren. Clyde is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is in charge of all arrangements.
